Drugs Altering Gut Motility (also appear in CNS chapter)

MHRA drug safety update May 2014

Due to cardiac side effects, domperidone is now restricted to use in the relief of nausea and vomiting and should be used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time.

Domperidone is now contraindicated in people:

  • with conditions where cardiac conduction is, or could be, impaired
  • with underlying cardiac diseases such as congestive heart failure
  • receiving other medications known to prolong QT interval or potent CYP3A4 inhibitors
  • with severe hepatic impairment

Please note, sample information has been entered into Chapters 1 and 2 only and although fairly clinically accurate, it is not guaranteed. The information was entered during April and May 2017 and drugs will have subsequently been randomly added during telephone demonstrations.
