2.5.1 Vasodilator antihypertensive drugs

  1. Hydralazine, when used alone causes tachycardia and fluid retention.
  2. In patients who are intolerant of ACE inhibitors or for whom they are contra-indicated, hydralazine may be used in combination with long acting nitrates in moderate to severe chronic congestive cardiac failure, but this combination may be poorly tolerated (BNF).
